Barcelona is Spain’s second city and sporting hub, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and has something for everyone. Lively streets and squares, impressive architecture, relaxing parks, beaches, long boulevards and of course one of the most popular marathons in Europe.
17,000 runners from over 100 nations are expected to take to the roads in March for the 2024 Barcelona Marathon, known locally as Zurich Marató Barcelona Marathon. In 2024, for the 45th year, the race is debuting a new flatter and faster course! The route stays close to the heart of the city hitting 12 iconic landmarks and ending at the incredible Arc de Triomf.
The Barcelona Marathon has achieved IAAF Road Race Gold Label status and is one of the most popular marathons in Europe, not only for the beauty of the course but also the city itself.

Friday 8th March 2024: Arrival Day
Make your own arrangements to arrive at your hotel in Barcelona today. Usually, hotel rooms are ready to check in after 3pm. If you arrive early, then you can leave your luggage with the hotel and explore your surroundings while you wait for the room to be ready.
Runners must pick up their race number at the Expo, located at Fira de Barcelona in Montujic, either today or Saturday between the hours of 10:00am – 8:00pm. There is no possibility of bib collection on race day.
The Barcelona Marathon Expo is the biggest sports show in Spain and admission is free and open to anyone who loves running and sport in general. Many top brands, products and service providers will be on display for you to chat to and/or buy from. Please ensure you have email confirmation of your registration along with personal ID to collect your bib number.Marathon Tours & Travel staff will be available during your stay in Barcelona. Times and contact numbers will be provided with your final documents and itinerary.
Saturday 9th March 2024: Preparation Day with optional Breakfast Run
Today there is an opportunity to participate in the Breakfast Run. You should register in advance as numbers are limited to 2,000. This fun run starts from the Magic Fountain of Montjuic and finishes 4 kilometres later inside the Olympic Stadium where refreshments and a small breakfast is available. The Marathon Tours & Travel team will be happy to accompany anyone who wishes to join this event, fun guaranteed! Supporters are very welcome to join too. Today you will have another opportunity to visit the expo if you were unable to attend on Friday.
This evening, enjoy an included pasta dinner, to help fuel for the big day, before an early night and a restful sleep.
Sunday 10th March 2024: The 2024 Barcelona Marathon
This is the day you have trained so hard for! The Barcelona Marathon starts from 8.30am and is a 42.2km tour of Barcelona which guarantees to be an experience you will not forget. Your training is now done, the race is here and soon you will be wearing a well-deserved medal! Walk to the race start to get into your race corral one hour prior to your starting wave.
Family and friends who are not racing, you can travel by foot or public transport in your own time and pace to support and spectate along the race route. The Marathon Tours & Travel team will be happy to advise.
After the race make your way back to the hotel, freshen up, celebrate…you deserve it! This evening, get-together with Marathon Tours & Travel Team and your fellow runners and supporters to celebrate.Monday 11th March 2024: Departure
Unless you have booked extra nights with us then today, we ask that you check out of your room before 12 noon, and we say thank you for joining us. It’s not goodbye but instead we’ll see you next time as we hope you will join us for another Marathon Tours & Travel trip.

Closer to the event we will send you a link which will allow you to complete the registration process for the 2024 Barcelona Marathon. Once you have finalised the registration process, the race organisers will allocate you a starting time and bib based on the information provided.
